Pre-Sea Training Course for G.P. Rating (GPR)
Eligibility
Pre-Sea General Purpose of Rating (GPR)
Minimum Academic Qualification
Pass with aggregate 40% marks in 10th standard from a recognized Board with science, Mathematics as subjects with minimum 40% marks in English Language.

Age Limit: Between 17.5 to 25 years

Duration: 6 Months
Intake Capacity: 2 Batches of 40 Students Each
Course Commencement
General purpose ratings are trained in Deck Maintenance including Navigational jobs as well as the maintenance of Engine room machinery and other associated technical jobs. They are trained on the subjects like English & Etiquette, Mathematics & Physics, Health Hazards & Personal Safety, Ships & Shipping Industry, use of Life Saving Appliances & Fire Fighting Appliances, Safe Working Practices on Deck & in Engine Room, First Aid, Nautical Terms, Navigation & watch-keeping, Ship’s Maintenance, Signalling, Ship visits with separate Marine Engineering syllabi at the support level like Machinery in Engine-Room, Watch keeping duties in Engine-Room and Basic Environmental Protection. They even have the opportunity of becoming full-fledged Navigating Officers subject to fulfillment of D.G. Shipping guidelines.
*As per new DGS directive the training period for the Four basic mandatory modular Courses for G.P. Rating has been increased by 100%.
Certificate Course in Maritime Catering (CCMC)
Eligibility
Pre-Sea Certificate Course in Maritime Catering (CCMC)
Minimum Academic Qualification
Pass with aggregate 40% marks in 12th standard from any stream, from a recognized Board with English as a subject. The Candidate to obtain atleast 40% marks in English either at 10th or 12th standard. Age Limit: Between 17.5 to 25 years.

Duration:6 Months
Intake Capacity: 40 Students per Batch
Course Commencement
A Saloon Rating after successful completion of pre-sea course, joins vessel as General Steward or Trainee/2nd Cook and subsequently become Chief Cook/Chief Steward who is the in-charge of Catering Department. He takes care of Ship’s fooding, provision stores, general hygiene and house keeping. The Chief Cook is usually one of the most pampered and loved person on board. A few years of experience allows them to serve as specialist cook for different cuisines in “Cruise Liners” or join Star Hotels at shore. Pre-sea Saloon Rating course will cover common syllabi for the Ratings like, English (Nautical Terms), Etiquette, Mathematics, Physics, Health Hazards & Personal safety, Ships & Shipping Industries, Use of Life Saving & Fire Fighting Appliances, Safe Working Practices, First Aid, Navigation, Ship’s Maintenance, Signaling & Ship Visit. They also undertake exclusive training programme in subjects like Food Production, House keeping, Hygiene & Front Desk Service.
Mandatory Basic Modular Courses (As per STCW’2010 Convention)
After Completion of Pre-sea Training all the candidates have to undergo the following STCW’2010 Basic Familiarization Courses for the issuance of C.D.C.
Elementary First Aid (E.F.A)
Duration : 2 days
Objective : On completion of this course, the trainee will be able to provide immediate basic medical care at the scene of accident or in case of other medical emergencies.
Personal Survival Technique (P.S.T)
Duration: 3 Days
Objective: On completion of this course, the trainee will be able to react in a correct manner during emergency situations and take appropriate measures for his own and others survival and use Life Saving Appliances correctly. He will also acquire knowledge which in some instances will enable him to identify and correct defects and thereby evading emergencies.
Personal Survival Technique (P.S.T) Refresher also available

Personal Safety & Social Responsibilities (P.S.S.R)
Duration: 3 Days
Objective: On completion of this course, the trainee should be able to identify potential areas of emergencies that may arise in the marine environment, whereby he can take effective steps to observe “Safe Working Practices” to eliminate personal injuries and accidents. It will also help the Trainee to create conducive atmosphere designed to boost high-spirited humane/social relationship amongst shipmates.
Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting (FP & FF)*
Duration: 3 Days
Objective: A trainee successfully completing this course will be able to react in a correct manner in the event of an out break of fire and to take appropriate measures for the safety of personnel and of the ship and to use the Fire Fighting Appliances correctly. He will also be able to identify and take corrective measures to prevent a fire from occurring.

Oil Tanker Familiarization Course (O.T.F) – Mandatory for all ratings & officers at entry level intending to serve onboard Oil Tankers.
Duration: 5 Days
Objective: On completion of this course, a trainee will be able to perform the specific duties and responsibilities pertaining to the Oil Tankers, like Cargo handling and allied equipments, care in transit with special emphasis on Prevention of Marine Pollution, safety and hazards relating to Tanker Operations.

Career Prospects

Most job opportunities in the field of Hospital Management are in hospitals, but one can also find openings in health agencies, laboratories and other health and allied services. Government hospitals as well as private hospitals employ Hospital administrators/ managers. Hospital Management positions varies from Head of the department to Chief executive officer at numerous organizational levels. A fresh graduate with Master’s degree in health services or hospital administration may start their professional career as Assistant Hospital administrators or as managers of various departments like Front office, Public Relations, finance, Quality control etc. Experienced and senior Hospital Administrators can eventually reach the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO). It is these people who are supposed to report to the board of directors or the governing body of the hospital.

The Hospital Manager’s role differs according to the size of the organization. In a smaller, medical or health care center, they have to handle day-to-day administrative work, which may involve billing, maintenance, equipment supply etc. and also work closely with doctors, in group practice and decision-making. But large-scale organizations may require the services of a manager in key aspects as well. Eligibility:

The applicant must be an Indian citizen, having passed/ appeared at the Higher Secondary Examination in the General or Vocational Stream of the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or its equivalent examination from a recognized University/ Board.
